Green Mountain Painting with Reasons to Hire a Professional Painter

By Rob Leitschuh

Tell us a little bit about your company and its foundation.

I come from a third generation of painters. My grandfather was a graduate of a painting school back in Wisconsin in the 1920's . My Uncles took over the business when my grand father died. I started as a young kid with a brush in my hand during the summer.

I also worked for some other professional companies back in Wisconsin during the winter months and was able to pick up little tid bits from some of the old timers.

After college I started my own painting company in 1973. I started working with some of my friends that I grew up with and steadily grew to hire more people. As time went on my vision grew and we started adding more things to our repertoire; Removing and replacing rotted wood as we worked grew into replacing windows, doors, replacing siding.

Today we offer not only painting but we have people who refinish floors or replace and install new flooring, I have electricians, plumbers, and others so now we do remodeling in homes as well.

What are some benefits of hiring an interior painter over attempting to do it yourself?

We do interior as well as exterior painting. The most important thing on any project is the preparation work. Repairing cracks and inconsistencies in walls has taken many years of learning to get it right. Every home has it's own character and the many years of seeing different situations gives us the experience to do the job right. Exterior requires a lot of scraping, caulking, sanding and checking the surfaces for correctness before primer or final coats are applied. Power washing to clean the surface before applying paints is sometimes essential when mold, mildew, or dirt are present on surfaces.

Do you have to supply the painters with the paint and supplies or is it included in the price?

Typically we buy the paints. Two reasons, we know the better paints for each situation and we have worked with these paints for years; second giving a price including the paints the customer knows what it's going to cost. Most jobs we give an estimate, but few require a time and materials

.

In your opinion, what are the most difficult things to paint?

Very high areas and areas that have a roof below the area where you need to put ladders. We have years of experience with many different situations that require different types of equipment to get to certain areas. Safety is always a major concern in all that we do

Older homes from 1978 and older have lead. We have been trained and are lead certified. We work with the proper techniques and safety to do such projects.

What is the best way for people to reach you and or your company?
