The Want for Something More at Jam Bakery

By Elisha Neubauer

Shiel Worcester had been working in the food and restaurant industry for over 10 years before she found herself feeling the pull of something more. Although she had been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the greatest, and most inspiring, people in the industry, Worcester wanted more for herself and her work.

This was what got the ball rolling and eventually gave birth to Jam Bakery in Richmond.

"I was inspired by my surroundings, my family, my friends," said Worcester. "The bakery was my creative outlet, a way for me to interact with my community, a step forward."

The bakery was officially born in January 2015.

Worcester has a deep-seated love for what she referred to as rustic pastries, like pie. For Worcester, these types of desserts require a patience, an adoration for the tasty treat.

"Pie allows me to play with a variety of flavors while also creating a visual piece of art," Worcester said. "It reminds me of home and my mother's rhubarb patch."

When it comes to catering an event, Jam Bakery works one on one with clients to ensure a menu which works perfectly with their affair. Whether it is a Jam Bakery favorite or something entirely new, Worcester and her staff make every effort to satisfy their client's desires.

"We love creating something just for you," Worcester said. "I love getting to know my customers."

Worcester did suggest always scheduling a tasting prior to any event, so that there is opportunity to tweak any changes that need to be made.

While Jam Bakery planted its roots in Richmond, the bakery has since moved to the Burlington area, which has helped expose yet another neighborhood to the joy that is Jam Bakery.

"The bakery has expanded my community and network of friends which I really value," Worcester said.
