Synergy Fitness Brings Harmony to the Environment and Fitness Routines

By Pamela Sosnowski

Vermont's nickname is The Green Mountain State, and given residents' high level of attention to environmental causes, it could also be called simply "The Green State." One such business helping to drive environmental consciousness is Synergy Fitness, based in Williston. Located within a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building, the fitness studio believes in not only supporting the local community, but the environment as well.

"We believe the health of our members is tied to the health of the environment and the community in which they live," owner Jan Riordan said. "Synergy is a 'green' fitness facility, and provides cutting edge fitness equipment, programs and sustainable business practices."

Throughout the studio's space members will find many sustainable touches, such as the lockers made of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) wood and a devotion to recycling. Synergy, however, has much more to offer than just a commitment to helping the environment. It boasts the latest gym equipment such as elliptical trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, step mills and more in its cardio section alone, each accompanied with their own 17" television. The 3,000-square-foot free-weight room is equipped with a hammer strength platform and nautilus one equipment. The cycling studio is stocked with Schwinn A.C Performance bikes that can track a user's mileage, speed, calories burned, and more.

Synergy also offers a diverse list of group classes in kickboxing, Zumba, BarreFIT and more, that are taught by caring and inspiring instructors. Access to all group classes is free with membership. Other amenities include a 100% natural juice bar that serves nutrient-packed smoothies with no added sugars, accompanied by a cozy lounge to relax in before or after a workout, and in fared saunas featuring CarbonFlex "Organic Carbon" heating panels for safe, even heating.

Five instructors with varied backgrounds in fitness including training professional athletes and post-rehab clients teach the classes at Synergy. Personal training with educated and certified instructors is available, as well as massage therapy and yoga for stress relief. These services are an additional cost that is not included in the price of membership.

The gym offers a free week-long trial to all new memberships, after which monthly rates being at $65 per month for a one year commitment. Riordan admits that the prices are a bit costlier than other fitness studios, but that the high level of service and offering the latest fitness trends pay for themselves.

"Our members do pay a little bit more to be at Synergy, and in turn we are committed to consistently providing a positive experience with professional expertise, with cutting edge equipment, in an extremely clean and well-maintained facility," she said. "Our atmosphere is very welcoming, motivating and professional."

Corporate memberships are also available to local companies, thanks to Synergy's partnership with PT360, a local physical therapy facility. Vermont companies that are offering Synergy membership to its employees include IBM, Marriott, and Burton Snowboards.

Conveniently located in White Cap Business Park, the gym is open seven days a week.
