Healthy, Wholesome and Environmentally-Friendly Meals Delivered With Fiddleheads Cuisine

By Kelly Church

Delivered each week at various pick-up locations in reusable and environmentally-friendly glass containers, Fiddleheads Cuisine is a Moretown, VT meal preparation service. Chef Lisa Mason opened the business after attending Bauman College's Natural Chef Program in Santa Cruz, CA. Fiddleheads Cuisine was her way of providing Moretown with healthy meals each week by offering a subscription service with flavor variety.

"I knew I had to create a business that allowed me to be in the kitchen doing what I loved most," Mason said. "Because of the subscription-based model, I am able to offer my customers meals crafted from local ingredients, packaged in reusable glass containers and delivered to convenient pick-up points."

Mason said that her business model provides the community with fresh, tasty and healthy meals during busy work weeks, and she's able to count on recurring orders every week. Mason said Fiddleheads Cuisine gives her members a chance to spend more time with their families because they're less focused on grocery shopping and making lunches or dinners.

The Fiddleheads Cuisine menu changes on a daily basis, something Mason credits as keeping her constantly excited about her job. Her favorite meals to create are ethnic dishes. She said she loves introducing her clients to new flavors they otherwise may not get to try. Many of the ingredients used in Mason's recipes are plant-based, local and organic to place an emphasis on a healthy, whole foods diet.

"Thai is one of my favorites," Mason said. "Cooking with fresh lemongrass, ginger, coconut and coriander fill the kitchen with the most tantalizing smells. I also love Latin meals. Think smoky peppers, silky avocado, creamy cheeses served with locally-made tortillas."

All Fiddleheads Cuisine meals are fully prepared. Members simply place their order, pick up on Mondays and Thursdays, and reheat in the glass containers they're delivered in. Members sign up on a monthly basis, however, the first two weeks are a trial basis so new clients can decide if the meal service works for their schedules. On their next pick-up, members can drop off the glass containers from their previous delivery.

A delivery for two services is $32, and $55 for four servings. Pick-ups are offered at various locations in Waterbury, Waitsfield, Moretown and Montpelier. For those interested in trying Fiddleheads Cuisine, visit fiddleheadscuisine.com and fill out an online application to get started.
