Healing the Body One Massage at a Time with Twyla Wallace

By Marina I. Jokic

With years of specialized experience in therapeutic massage, Twyla Wallace is equipped to take on any type of injury or chronic condition. Nationally certified and fully insured, Wallace has built up her private massage practice over the course of many years, offering individual as well as group massages and home visits. Located in the small, quaint town of West Dover, VT, Wallace's practice is conveniently located right off Route 100 just two miles south of Mt. Snow.

Wallace has extensive experience performing different types of massage, especially the blending of various forms and styles to achieve the highest effect. She is particularly skilled at tailoring her massage treatments to the physical needs and limitations of her clients. Wallace offers individualized sessions that nurture the body and mind. Special treatment add-ons include hot packs, aromatherapy, and special cushions that provide extra comfort.

"I have always been fascinated with the healing power of touch," Wallace said. "In college, I was training to be a teacher and had a part time job with the commission for the blind working with a blind student."

Soon after Wallace finished her teaching commitment, the student went on to massage school. In fact, she was the one that gave Wallace her first massage, inspiring her to become a professional therapist herself.

"The time spent on her table was so calming and grounding, the seeds were planted," Wallace said. "A few years later in 1985, I enrolled in massage school in Portland Oregon [and] I was licensed in 1986."

As a therapist, Wallace believes in creating the most comfortable and relaxing experience for her clients, using a nurturing ambiance of mellow light and sounds. Wallace knows that each person that lies down on her massage table is a unique individual requiring specialized treatment. Some people's bodies need mild pressure, while others need a firmer hand in order to release the pressure. Every session is distinct for Wallace. She knows when to linger in areas that need more attention and when to release parts that are sensitive or traumatized.

"I truly love what I do, and people can sense that," she said. "So whether a client is just stressed out with life or has a new hip or is dealing with the aches and pains of 'advancing youth', I help in any way I can."
