Expert Knowledge Helps You Ski Your Best at Peak Performance Ski Shop

By Elisha Neubauer

Since opening its doors in 1988, Peak Performance Ski Shop has continued to be one of the top ranked ski shops in the US. Family owned and operated from the start, it was the smallest shop to ever make Ski Magazine's Top 50 list of ski shops, and has continually made the list every year since 1989.

"We learned the ins and outs of ski racing from our three sons, who are home grown Vermont ski racers," states Fred and Denise Coriell, owners of Peak Performance Ski Shop. "Fred, David and Scott raced in Vermont since their Hopeful days, and advanced to win medals at States, Jr. Olympics, Eastern Cups, NCAA's, and All East. David gained All-American status and raced NorAm's throughout Europe. All three sons continued to race Division 1 at Middlebury College."

The shop prides itself on offering World Cup quality ski preparation to skiers of all skill levels. "Our ski service center is one of the finest in the United States," explains the Coriells. "Our Wintersteiger Mercury tuning machine and Sigma Stone Grinder guarantee it." They attribute their combination of manual and automated grinding machines to this refinement.

"All of our technicians perform annual binding certification tests and we have a licensed Pedorthist on staff for expert boot work," the Coriells state. "Peak Ski Shop has high standards, the best ski service equipment available and the most knowledgeable ski technicians in the business. You won't find this level of service at just any ski shop."

The reason Peak Ski Shop is so successful is simple: they're all skiers. So when it comes to selecting the clothes, gear, and accessories that will be stocked in the shop, they know from firsthand experience which ones are the best quality, and which are the best bang for the buck. "If the brand does not meet our standards of quality and value, you will not see it in our shop," they say.

They currently offer such brands as Volkl, Fischer, Blizzard, Atomic, Nordica, Head, Dynastar, Lange, Tecnica, Salomon, POC, Spyder, Arctica Race and Shred. "We carry AT and telemark gear from Black Diamond and Twenty Two Designs," the Coriells detail. "We also offer top outdoor and apparel brands like Marmot, Flylow, Spyder, Outdoor Research, Millet, Eider, Karbon, Sunice, Kuhl, Skhoop, Prana, Sherpa Adventure Gear, Hestra, Lole, Nils and Scott."

But it took more than a good selection of gear and grinders to crack the Ski Magazine Top 50 list of Ski Shops. In actuality, it comes down to the overall experience. Whether you're a first time skier or a pro, working with someone who is not only knowledgeable about the practice but passionate as well, can make all the difference in your visit. "We are a family-run and oriented business with emphasis on integrity, quality relationships and giving back to the community," say the Coriells. "Helping you ski your best is the most important thing we have to do today."
