Chittenden County Chiropractic Makes Health Care More Preventative and Comprehensive

By Kelly Church

Chittenden County Chiropractic is a medically-based chiropractic office with physicians that have more than 15 years of experience providing patients with relief. The Essex Junction, VT studio mostly sees patients with muscle and joint therapy, according to Dr. Cory Pike. The studio's goal is to help people and move health care towards more preventative, holistic care, according to Pike. They do this through chiropractic services and massage therapy.

On a client's first chiropractic appointment, the physician will take a patient history and perform a physical exam. This gives the physician a full picture and help determine treatment. Follow up appointments are when the physician reviews the patient's physical exam and any other tests that were performed, including MRIs or X-Rays. The physician can then outline a treatment plan for the patient.

"We provide a unique experience by addressing individual needs," Pike said. "We go out of our way to make sure we focus on patient care and delivering high quality services."

For massage therapy, patients can experience relief in the musculoskeletal system through a variety of different types of massage: deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release and neurokinetic therapy.

The massage therapist can help determine what type of therapy is best for the patient. Trigger point therapy is typically recommended for those who have small knots that lead to localized blood loss. Trigger points can have an effect on other areas of the body, as scientists have noticed certain trigger points can be felt throughout the body. Deep tissue massage can also be beneficial in releasing trigger points.

Myofascial release is a type of therapy that deals with the fascia, or thin tissue that covers the organs and muscles. Myofascial release focuses on lengthening the fascia, which can provide relief from pain, prevent injuries and even prevent fibromyalgia.

Neurokinetic therapy is more movement based rehabilitation. When the body experiences poor movement in one area of the body, other areas tend to overcompensate which can cause strain. Neurokinetic therapy focuses on preventing the overcompensation of those muscles, and improving the areas with limited mobility.
