Building a Home: An Interview with Josh Boynton of Boynton Construction

By josh Boynton

Tell us a little bit about your company and its foundation.

Josh Boynton started this company in 2000 after studying Architectural and Building Engineering Technology at Vermont Technical College. He had worked for a couple of companies over the years and had decided to go out on his own. The building trade is passed down through generations in his family. His grandfather did it, his father does it, and now he does it.

Can you list the steps for building a home

A home starts with a good foundation. Once that is poured and set, then the builders/contractors frame the building and sheath it (plywood) and get it papered in so it's nice and watertight. Then they install the exterior doors and windows, and frame the interior partitions (now it's really starting to look like a house!). Next, the subcontractors (electric and plumbing /heating) can come in and do their rough-in, while the builders can go outside and do roofing, exterior trim and siding. Finally, when that is completed they can go in and do the sheetrock, flooring, interior trim and finishes. Now the home is completed.

How long does this process typically take?

This process typically takes 3-7 months depending on the size, finishes and complexity of the home.

Is there a particular style of home that you specialize in or prefer to build?

We prefer to build custom homes-there is something about watching a person's face light up as their dream home unfolds.

What advice do you have for the homeowner during this process?

Our advice to a homeowner during this process is to communicate often. During our projects we like to check in to be sure any questions, concerns knowledge are being shared.

What's the best way for people to get in contact with you?

The best way to get in contact with us is to call the office or email us. 802-436-4411 or boyntoncon@gmail.com
